Scholarships

At GPSA Research Exposition

Awards

GPSA Research Exposition participants compete in 6 categories (see below) for a total of $9,600 in scholarships. Within each category, the following scholarships will be awarded.

  • First place: $800
  • Second place: $500
  • Third place: $300

The review process is double blind, which means that both reviewer and author identities are concealed.

Watch for email notification of acceptance in early March.

Poster judging

Thur., March 28.

If your abstract is accepted, you will receive notification in early March of your judging time at the event.

Judges will ask you to present your poster. They will follow your presentation with questions.

Judges will evaluate your poster and presentation using the GPSA Research Exposition Poster Grading Rubric (pdf), shown below.

The GPSA Strategic Planning & Scholarship Committee will send an email announcement of winners in each competition category.

Background and objectives
  • Topic is introduced in a manner that is appropriate for non-experts.

  • Context for the work is provided.

  • Research questions or objectives are clearly communicated.
Methods/medium and results
  • Methods are logically presented.

  • Rationale for each technique is provided.

  • Clear relationship is shown between objectives and results.
Impacts
  • Work is novel or impactful.

  • Implications and applications of the work are identified.

  • Future avenues of investigation are identified.
Visual presentation
  • Figures and images are visually engaging.

  • Poster layout flows logically.

  • Poster content is error-free.
Communication skills
  • Presenter speaks clearly, naturally, and with enthusiasm.

  • Presenter makes frequent eye contact.

  • Presentation is well-paced and of appropriate length.
Questions
  • Presenter answers questions clearly, thoroughly, and succinctly.

  • Presenter understands and addresses audience’s questions.

  • Presenter can integrate knowledge to answer questions.
Overall impression
  • Evaluate poster and presentation overall
