Showcase 2010

Abstracts, Posters & Alternative Formats

Submission guidelines

Deadline for Submissions:
5 p.m., January 29, 2010

Eligibility

Abstracts may be submitted by Washington State University faculty, staff, or students. Individuals may present only one abstract as a primary or presenting author.

Abstracts must adhere to a strict 250-word limit and be written for an educated lay audience. If you have an existing poster containing an abstract of a highly technical nature, that abstract may remain as part of your presentation; however, for this event the submitted abstract should be written for a general audience and be free of jargon.  The abstract must demonstrate work that is of scientific, scholarly, or creative significance.

Projects may have been previously presented (between March 28, 2009, and March 25, 2010) at a professional conference, but not at a previous WSU Academic Showcase event. Abstracts must demonstrate scientific, scholarly, or creative significance, and have been completed for or at Washington State University.

Submissions from students must include the name of a faculty member as a sponsor or co-author. Students should not submit work completed during internships affiliated with non-Washington State University organizations.

Abstract Review

Each abstract is reviewed by a minimum of two faculty members using the Abstract Evaluation Checklist.  If there is disagreement between those reviewers, the abstract is sent to a third reviewer.  If there are still questions, the abstract is then brought before the entire Academic Showcase Committee for review.

Abstracts receiving total points equal to or greater than 27 (mean of ≥4.5) will be deemed acceptable. However, depending on available space, not all accepted abstracts will be invited to participate in the Academic Showcase.  Abstracts that are acceptable will be included in the Academic Showcase based on rank score and available space.

Reviewers will use this checklist for evaluating abstracts.

All abstracts accepted into the Academic Showcase will be published online.

Life is good at WSU.
